Langebaan Yacht Club

To All Members and Staff of the LYC,

My sincere thanks go to all of you for your trust and support by electing me as Commodore of LYC at the Special General Meeting held on 12 September 2009.

I am fully aware that the LYC belongs to the members and that I, and the Committee, am only an instrument in your hands to ensure that the Club will prosper and will strive to live up to its Vision, Mission and Values.

We are presently, in accordance with the LYC Constitution par 10.5 in the process of finalizing your new committee and have decided to invite our members to participate. The Constitution states that 3 changes in the Committee per term of office can be made by the Committee. You will receive an SMS regarding application for the Vice-Commodore and Rear-Commodore Outside and I request that those so inclined participate accordingly. The remainder of the present Committee will consider all applicants shortly and inform you of their decision as soon as possible.

All members and Staff are welcome to give suggestions to me and the Committee regarding the management of the Club. I however prefer that this be done more formally either in writing or in person by prior arrangement at the LYC Office. Obviously I am always available to handle emergencies telephonically. We all want to enjoy the Club socially so I respectfully request that you do not approach me or members of the Committee in the bar regarding management issues. I will make myself available for input for an afternoon per week at the LYC Office. A program in this regard will be made available monthly. The Club Manager and Staff are always available to assist you.

We are all privileged to live in or visit Langebaan and to utilize the LYC to enjoy the various water sports. Let us all work together to ensure that the LYC is a safe haven to our families and friends and that we remain the “Best Yacht Club in the Western Cape”.

Langebaan Seiljag Klub

Aan alle Lede en Personeel van die LSK,

My opregte dank gaan aan almal vir U vertroue en ondersteuning om my as die Kommodoor van die LSK te verkies by die Spesiale Algemene Vergadering op 12 September 2009.

Ek is terdeë bewus daarvan dat die LSK aan sy lede behoort en dat ek, en die Komitee, slegs ʼn instrument in U hande is om te verseker dat die Klub sal gedy en die Visie, Missie en Waardes nagestreef sal word.

Ons is tans besig met die proses, na aanleiding van par 10.5 van die Konstitusie, om U nuwe Komitee te finaliseer en wil U graag daarby betrek. Die Konstitusie maak voorsiening dat die Komitee 3 veranderinge aan die Komitee mag aanbring tydens sy dienstermyn. Lede sal ʼn SMS ontvang aangande die aansoek vir Vise-Kommodoor en die Buitenshuis Skout-Kommodoor en lede word uitgenooi om aansoek te doen as hulle sou belangstel. Die res van die huidige Komitee sal die aansoeke oorweeg en lede binnekort van die besluit inlig.

Alle lede en Personeel is welkom om aanbevelings m.b.t. die bestuur van die Klub aan my en die Komitee te maak. Ek verkies dat dit meer formeel geskied; of skriftelik of met my persoonlik deur vooraf reelings met die LSK Kantoor te tref. Ek is ook telefonies beskikbaar indien daar n noodsituasie is. Ons wil die Klub sosiaal geniet en versoek almal beleefd om nie my of die Komitee Lede met bestuurskwessies in die kroeg te nader nie. Ek sal myself beskikbaar stel by die LSK Kantore vir een middag ʼn week vir U insette. ʼn Program in die verband sal maandeliks beskikbaar gemaak word. Die Klub- bestuurder en Personeel is altyd beskikbaar om lede by te staan.

Ons is almal bevoorreg om in Langebaan te kan bly of te besoek en die LSK te gebruik om verskeie watersporte te beoefen. Kom ons werk saam om te verseker dat die LSK ‘n veilige hawe is vir ons familie en vriende en dat ons die” Beste Seiljag Klub in die Weskaap” bly.

KOMMODOOR LANGEBAAN SEILJAG KLUB 

 

Good day to you all!!!!!!!!!!!

We are four months into the new financial year and have some interesting projects in the pipeline as well as a long list of essential maintenance items and improvements to attend to.

Unfortunately as in other areas, the economic situation has hit the club with some 22 resignations & approximately 90 members still unpaid.  Bar takings are also below target meaning we have to proceed carefully with any planned expenditure and put some projects on hold.

Our attempt to provide a "Christmas in July" function with a dinner and dance failed dismally due to lack of interest and the inability to sell sufficient tickets to reach break even, so the event was cancelled.

We also are going to step up controls to prevent non-member access except to the slipway in quiet times and off-season so this may also impact revenue, so come on club members lets show your support for club wherever possible.

Excluding membership fee income, the club's running costs are currently exceeding income by around R43 000 p.m.  The policy of taking on new members with a Langebaan residency in the hope of boosting turnover and support for functions is thus an important one and we can only hope this materialises.

On a happier note, the fishing season is just around the corner so tight lines and happy releasing of all the small ones and large breeding stock for the good of our future participation in this magnificent pastime.
